Hi All,
I know it’s been a while! I’ve been busy trying to finish up a number of writing projects I’ve started over the last couple of years and are all in different phases. As you will have figured out by now, I work on a number of projects simultaneously. For better or worse, that is how I work. I like to think that in about another year, I will have several projects completed. I have one full-length play, Keep, completed and two more that are close, amongst other “things.” If you’re curious for more info, I updated the PLAYS and NOVELS pages with short descriptions some new stuff I’m working on.
The Pear Playwright Guild is turning out to be incredibly helpful. Last week, I brought a short comedic scene from a quirky futuristic drama I’m working on called Perfect. The scene is a first date set-up by an online dating service that devolves into a total trainwreck. The guy has an abrasive, often argumentative personality, while the woman completely lied on her dating profile. I was hoping to see if it could work as a stand alone short play as well as part of a whole since so far I’ve devoted my playwriting time mostly to full lengths.
I’m always really nervous to put new work out there, but it went really well! It’s always nice to hear laughter because of something you write. The group can give tough love, which is very necessary. But, for the most part, all were in support of submitting it after a few improvements. One member made an especially helpful comment which I will take to heart and use in revision. I try to really listen, take notes, think over all the comments, and then implement ideas that resonate. Otherwise, why be a member of the group in the first place? So grateful for the group and the Pear Theatre in Mountain View for setting it up. Thanks to local theatres that support local writers! They are few and far between. Let’s try to support them, too!
